Abstract
The external gear pump is a component that converts mechanical power to (Round) into hydraulic power for the power steering system. This analysis has purpose to find out the damage that occurred, analyze the damage, and know the steps to repair and minimize damage to the external gear pump. The inspection procedure is carried out by performing a visual inspection and performance test on the components of the external gear pump and performing a pump disassembly. Furthermore, an analysis of the efficiency produced by the pump is carried out. the results of the analysis, the damage is in the driver and idle gear, seal back up retainers caused by unscheduled maintenance and oil damage. The calculation results show a theoretical pump discharge of 29.29 liters / minute, Volumetric pump efficiency of 74.7%, mechanical efficiency of the pump is 95.71% with the normal torque of 0.868 Nm / rad, and for overall efficiency of 70.7%. To optimize the work of a unit so that the new steps taken are scheduled maintenance (daily check) and the correct method of operation.
