Abstract

This research aims at analyzing the implementation of teaching speaking based on the School Level-based Curriculum in SMP 2 KARTASURA in 2008/2009 academic year and the students’ response toward of teaching speaking based on the School Level-based Curriculum in SMP 2 KARTASURA in 2008/2009 academic year. This research is a qualitative research. The data are taken from document, interview, and observation analysis. The object of the study is teaching speaking for the second year students of SMP 2 KARTASURA. The result of study shows that, the implementation of teaching speaking based on the School Level-based Curriculum in SMP 2 KARTASURA in 2008/2009 academic year is clear and good. Firstly teacher gives a clear explanation about the material to create a narrative text based on the picture. Teacher uses a simple materil for the student in junior high school level. The teacher teaches the material based on the curriculum so the students are able to follow the lessons. The implementation achieved by the student proofed that they are more interested in speaking; the material makes the student able to follow the lesson without any problem because in teaching speaking at SMP 2 Kartasura the teacher applies three techniques of teaching speaking such as acting from a script, role play and discussion. The acting from the script action is the teacher uses picture which is the picture related to narrative text. The students must create their own word (narrative text) based on the picture given then on the discussion the students and the teacher do a discussion to study the student’s ability after the work. The response of the students on teaching is good either, because on teaching speaking the teacher uses picture as a material to attract the students imagination and interaction.
