Abstract

This study aims to describe the mistakes made by students in solving questions about set material that are viewed from the SOLO taxonomy ((Structure Of The Observed Learning Outcome) and the factors that cause errors in these students so that similar errors can be minimized so that mathematics learning achievements can be improved. This type of research is qualitative research. The informants from this study were VII grade A1 students of MTsN 2 Surakarta. The technique of collecting data uses test, interview, and documentation methods. The validity of the data is done by source and technique triangulation. The source triangulation in this study is the results of tests, interviews and documentation. The results of the study were obtained: (1) the structural structural level of 15.93%, the unstructural level of 26.10%, the multistructural level of 17.63%, the relational level of 22.37%, and the extended abstract level of 17.97%. These results show the mistakes of students at the relational level that are the most from the other levels. (2) there are 3 factors that cause students to make mistakes, namely lack of reading and understanding the problem, students are less careful in doing the work, and students are hasty in working on the problem. (3) solutions to reduce / minimize errors made by students namely by multiply practice questions, and check answers again before leaving work
