Abstract

This study aims to (1) analyze what type of literary text is contained in the VIII grade of SMP/MTs Indonesian textbook material in the 2017 Revised Edition published by the Ministry of Education and Culture. (2) analyze what literary material is contained in the Indonesian language textbook for grade VIII SMP/MTs 2017 Revised Edition published by the Ministry of Education and Culture. (3) analyze the value of character education found in literature class VIII Indonesian textbooks for SMP/MTs 2017 Revised Edition published by the Ministry of Education and Culture. The type of research used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method. Data collection in this study uses the method of note and note. The results of the analysis of the study are three, namely (1) narrative literary texts including 3 data review texts, 4 data drama texts, and 4 data short texts. While the types of nonnarative literary texts have only 18 poetic texts. (2) findings of literary teaching material based on cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects. (3) there are 12 values of character education found in literary teaching material in the books studied. Keywords: literary text, literary material, character education values.
