Abstract

Kersen leaves (Muntingia calabura L.) contain flavonoids and quercetin. The quercetin function is to keep pancreatic β cells working normally. Flavonoids inhibit GLUT2 work in the intestinal membrane. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect and effective dose of 70% ethanol extract of kersen leaves (Muntingia calabura L.) in decreasing rat blood sugar levels (Rattus norvegicus) induced by alloxan. The design of this study was experimental research using pretest and posttest with control group design. 24 rats were divided into 6 groups. Blood sugar measurement was carried out three times: initial (GD 0) day 0, pretest (GD 1) day 4, posttest (GD 2) day 11. The treatments given were K.1 (aquadest), K.2 (glibenklamid 0.126 mg/200gBB), K.3, K.4, K.5, K.6 each dose was 0.2 g/KgBB, 0,4 g/KgBB, 0.8 g/KgBB and a combination of half a dose of group II and glibenclamide peroral 7 days. Data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA obtained p=0,000 (p<0.05) showed significant differences and then LSD test. So that it can be concluded that 70% ethanol extract of kersen (Muntingia calabura L.) leaves dose 0.2 g/KgBB, 0.4 g/KgBB, 0.8 g/KgBB can reduce rat blood sugar levels induced by alloxan in 3 consecutive 31%, 26.51%, 25,23% respectively while the combination was not able to reduce rat blood sugar levels.
