Abstract

The purpose of the study is to describe students' difficulties in solving the subject matter problems in building space in aspects of language, concepts, calculating. This type of research is based on a qualitative ethnographic design approach. Research time in the even semester of 2017/2018 school year. The research subjects were teachers and students of SMP Negeri 2 Colomadu. Data collection techniques for tests, interviews, and documentation. The validity of the data uses triangulation of sources and techniques. Data analysis techniques use the three-groove method. The results of the study stated that students' difficulties in solving story problems in language aspects were observed from the achievement of indicators (1) being able to distinguish the important elements in the problem (2) being able to organize information into mathematical forms (3) able to attribute problems to the problem. Difficulty in solving story problems, the concept aspects observed from the achievement of indicators (1) being able to re-examine the problem solving (2) is able to criticize the questions given. Successfulness in solving story problems in calculating aspects of the achievement of indicators (1) being able to formulate problem solving by showing different solutions (2) being able to plan problem solving correctly (3) able to produce elements into a single entity.
