Abstract

This study aims to describe 1) planting the character of discipline through Hizbul Wathan's extracurricular activities, 2) planting independent character through Hizbul Wathan's extracurricular activities, 3) constraints on the cultivation of discipline and independence through Hizbul Wathan's extracurricular activities, 4) alternative solutions to overcome karkater planting constraints discipline and independence through the extracurricular activities of Hizbul Wathan fourth grade students at Muhmmadiyah 3 Elementary School Nusukan Surakarta. This type of research is qualitative research. The study uses the techniques of collecting data on observation, documentation and interviews. The data validity technique uses source triangulation and technique triangulation. Data analysis techniques use reductions, data presentation and data verification. The results of this study show that 1) planting character discipline through coming to the place of training on time, obeying the rules and being responsible for everything they do 2) planting independent character through UN training, tents and rigging 3) obstacles encountered in planting disciplined and independent karkter namely: the need for teacher educators, lack of development funds, differences in student character, and the need for parental attention to children 4) alternative solutions to overcome obstacles in cultivating disciplined and independent characters through Hizbul Wathan Extracurricular activities that are assessment, assertiveness and punishment for students done by memorizing the HW mars songs so that they do not violate the rules, provide a variety of interesting teaching or can also give a game so that students do not get bored to take part in the activity and the last is the need for additional supervisors so that the activities run smoothly.
