Abstract
School-age children in general are happy to play with their friends in their social environment. this time children enter the formal school stage, where children are required learn to be independently, complete school assignments and other developmental tasks. The importance of having social skills is to establish a quality relationship with the environment, because children who have social skills are able to convey or communicate ideas or brainchild so that others can understand what is being conveyed. The ability of children to acquire social skills depends on the level of their innate socialization specifically from the role of the social environment reviewed of parenting applied by parents. This study aims to determine the relationship between authoritarian parenting and children's social skills. The data retrieval method used in this study is a type of purposive sampling. The method used in this study is a quantitative method with a measuring instrument in the form of authoritarian parenting scale and children's social skills scale. The data analysis technique used in this research is Carl Person's product moment correlation which is calculated using the SPSS application program (Statistical Product and Service Solution) version 16.0 for Windows. Based on the calculation results obtained the correlation coefficient (rxy) of -0.663 with p = 0.000 (p <0.01). Based on the results of the analysis, there was a very significant negative relationship between authoritarian parenting and children's social skills. The effective contribution of authoritarian parenting variables to the variables of children's social skills is 38.8%, meaning that there are still 61.2% of other factors besides authoritarian parenting which affect children's social skills.
