Abstract
This study aims to analyze metacognitive activities in solving mathematical problems in statistical methods. The purpose of this study was to 1) analyze the metacognitive activity of class VIII students of SMP N 2 Ampel in solving mathematical problems with field dependent cognitive style. 2) analyzing metacognitive activities in solving problems in independent field cognitive styles. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The subjects of this study were four eighth grade students of SMP N 2 Ampel consisting of two students with field dependent cognitive style and two students with independent field cognitive style. The subject selection procedure uses cognitive style mapping tests and task-based interviews on statistical material. Validated data using triangulation and analyzed using the concept of data reduction, data verification, data presentation and conclusions. This study found that students showed metacognitive awareness. The results of this study indicate that 1) Metacognitive activities in field dependent students in solving mathematical problems include: Stage understanding the problem FD doing developing a plan of action (D) and monitoring (M), the stage of planning the completion of the FD subject to developing a plan of action ( D) and monitoring (M), at the stage of completing the completion of developing a plan of action (D) and monitoring (M), at the stage of re-examining the subject does not conduct metacognitive activities. 2) Metacognitive activities in field independent students in solving mathematical problems include: At the stage of understanding the problem, planning, carrying out completion and re-examining the subject to devoping a plan of action (D), monitoring (M) and evaluation (E). 3) Conclusion of the subject of FD activity on problem solving on the problem having DM-DM-DM pattern and subject of FI DME-DME-DME-DME.
