Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between parenting democratic with adolescent’s emotional intelligence. Subjects in this study were second class students of “Batik” Junior High School in Surakarta. This study uses a quantitative approach with non-random sampling as the sampling technique. The data collected by the parenting scale of democratic parenting and the scale of emotional intelligence. Data analysis using product moment correlation technique. The results of this study indicate that the value of correlation coefficient (rxy) = 0,424 with (sig) = 0,000 (p <0,01) which means there is a positive relationship between parenting democratic with adolescent’s emotional intelligence. So, the better style of democratic parenting, it can impact the better adolescent’s emotional intelligence. Conversely, the worse style of the democratic parenting, it can impact the worse adolescent’s emotional intelligence. The parenting style that given to subjects of this study was high and the subject has a good emotional intelligence. Keywords: Democratic Parenting, Emotional Intelligence, Junior High School
