Abstract

Social relationships of children and parents is a form of mutual interaction between parents and children. One of the factors that affect the social relationships of children and parents is the internet use. This study aims to determine the relationship between internet addiction to social relationships of children and parents. Hypothesis are proposed that there is a negative relationship between internet addiction to social relationships of children and parents. The population in this study were students of grade 4 and 5 SD Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo totaling 340 students, with the sample used amounted to 126 children. The sampling technique used in this research is cluster random sampling. This research use quantitative method using measuring Scale of Internet Addiction and Scale of Social Relationships of Children and Parents. Data analysis technique used in this research is product moment correlation. The result of data analysis obtained correlation of -0.406 with significance (p) of 0.000 (p ≤ 0,01) which means there is a very significant of negative relationship between internet addiction to social relationships of children and parents. The effective contribution (SE) of internet addiction to social relationships of children and parents is 16.5%, 83.5% is influenced by other factors. Internet addiction variable has empirical means (RE) equal to 60,11 so that belong to low category, meanwhile social relationships of children and parents variable has empirical means (RE) equal to 82,87 which belong to high category.
