Abstract
The intensity of communication through social media is the active frequency or individual activities within a certain time associated with the liveliness in using social media as communication with other people. One aspect that encourages appearance intensity of communication through social media is the number of people that invited to communicate. It means the number of topics and messages that can be talked and the amount of people that invited to communicate with regard to quantity, which can be attributed to the fulfillment of the developmental task. The aim of this research is to find difference intensity of communication through social media reviewed from the stage of development of adolescent and adult as well as the difference in gender. The researcher uses 103 subjects with purposive sampling technique. This research was conducted in 3 different places Sukoharjo, Karanganyar, and Surakarta Method of data collection using scale Intensity of communication through social media. Data analysis using Mann-Whitney Test. The result obtained Z of -1.460 and Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) of 0.144 (p>0,05) for the stage of development and it showed there was no significant difference in the intensity of communication through social media reviewed from the stage of development. While the result of the difference in gender obtained Z of – 2,418 and Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) of 0.016 (p>0,05) it showed there is a significant difference intensity of communication through social media between male and female.
