Abstract

This study aims to improve the ability to write short stories through the puppet stick media on students grade V SD Negeri Tempelrejo 1. Stick puppets media are used to improve the learning process and the results of writing short stories. The research method is carried out by Classroom Research (PTK). The implementation of classroom action research was conducted through two cycles. Each cycle is divided into four stages, namely planning, execution (implementation of action), observation, and reflection. The Data collected using observation, documentation, interview, and questionnaire. The Observation subjects were students and teachers in the classroom duringi the learning process, while the documentation in the form of photos of short story writing activities, the interviews were conducted with teachers, and the questionnaires consisted of question about the ability to write short stories. The data were analyzed using quantitative and qualitative methode. The success of this research are seen from two aspects. First aspect is the improverment of 2 learning process for students and teachers. The second aspect is based on the scores obtained by the students. Based on the results of students short story writing score from pre-cycle until cycle II as following: on average pre-cycle obtained by 23.3 . In the first cycle I obtained an average of 63.3 and there are 16 students who got the complete value. The average score obtained by students in cycle II is 73.3 and there are 26 complete students and 1 student is not complete. Based on the data, it can be concluded that the use of puppet stick media can improve the skills of writing short stories in grade V students SD Negeri tempelrejo 1.
