Abstract

This study discusses about impoliteness in Comedy movies namely Harold and Kumar, Ted, and Expelled. The aims of this study to identify impoliteness strategies and response of impoliteness in Comedy movies. The type of this study is descriptive qualitative and observation. Techniques to collect the data is done by documentation and observation while the techniques of data analysis is a qualitative technique, which is using Culpeper and Bousfield theory. The finding of this study are started as follows; 1) there only three impoliteness strategies found in Comedy movies they are bald on record, positive impoliteness, and negative impoliteness; 2) positive impoliteness as the most dominant strategy used by the characters; 3) all response of impoliteness found in comedy movies such as accepting the face attack, countering the face attack, no response; 4) countering face attack especially defensive strategy as most dominant response used by the characters to counter the speaker.
