Abstract

This study aims to describe student error in solving probability problem of story and analyze cause factors based on Newman's Error Analysis (NEA). Newman's Error Analysis consists of five stages: reading, understanding, process skills, and writing the final answer (encoding). The Newman Error Analysis consists of five stages: reading, understanding, transformation, process skills, and writing the final answer (encoding). The subjects of the study were students of Informatics Engineering Education Study Program of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta in academic year 2017/2018. Data collection methods used in this study are test results, interviews and documentation. Technical analysis of data through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The results of this study indicate that the errors experienced by students in solving probability story problems include: (1) reading error, (2) misunderstanding, (3) transformation error, (4) (process skills), and (5) error writing the final answer (encoding).
