Abstract

Family is one of the most important factors in improving the elderly’s life. Many people realize that taking care to the elderly’s life is a crucial thing. Family is one of the important factors. In the other hand, there are peopel who entrust member of family to the orphanage so elderly cannot meet their family every day. The objective study of this study is to investigate the role of the family visit rate in the quality of elderly’s life at Panti Wreda Dharma Bhakti Surakarta. The type of this study is descriptive qualitative research by using cross sectional approach. The populatin of this study consists of 80 people who live in Panti Wreda Dharma Bhakti Surakarta. The sampling of this study is 67 elderly which are obtained by using purposive sampling technique. Chi Square analysis is used to measure the validity of questionnaire and data analysis of the study.. The finding of Chi squares is derived from 2 value of 7.973 (p-value = 0,019), then the test result H0 is rejected. The result of this study shows that family visit is one of the most helpful factors in improving the quality of elderly’s life at Panti Wreda Dharma Bhakti Surakarta. It is expected to the further research to add the data on the characteristicsof elderly’s families so that, it can be investigated what kinds of factors are asosiated with the level of family visits to the elderly in the orphanage.
