Abstract

This a descriptive qualitative study. The aims are to classify the English teaching techniques used by the sixth semester students in the teaching internship program, to know the problem faced by the trainees when implenting the English teaching techniques, and to describe the trainees’ problem solving. The subject is the sixth semeter students of English Education Department of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta as a trainee. The data of this research were five videos of the five trainees which is transcribed into the written form. In the technique of collecting data, the researcher uses documentation, interview and questionnare. The result of this study shows that there are (1) four types of English teaching techniques used by the trainees, namely role playing, discussion, problem solving, and language game. (2) Five problems faced by the trainees are the learners are difficult to understand when the trainee explain using English. The learners are not ready to use the new techniques, the learner less comfortable to convey their opinion, the learners are noisy during the teaching learning activities, and the learner like joke during teaching learning activities. (3) Six way to solve the trainees’ problem are the trainees try to deliver the new material into Bahasa, the trainees combined the old techniques and the new techniques, the trainees add some points related with the material, the trainees using joke which consist of the material, and the trainees visit the students one by one and ask about their difficulty. Most all of the trainess combined several teaching techniques in order to deliver the materials and to solve their problem. The trainees also combined the technique by using media such as videos and picture.
