Abstract

Character education is one of the goals of national education. This is described in article 3 of the National Education System Act of 2003 (UU Sisdiknas). In the National Education Law states that, national education aims to the development of the potential of learners to become human beings who believe and cautious to God Almighty, morals, healthy, knowledgeable, capable, creative, independent, and become citizens of a democratic and responsible. Some schools in Indonesia have implemented or implemented Character Education, one of which is in SMP Negeri 1 Sukoharjo. This research is field research (field research), with data collection is done by using record method of observation, interview and documentation that can support research study. Data analysis is done by deductive model. The result of this study can conclude that at SMP Negeri 1 Sukoharjo implementing character of education through 3 phases, namely planning phase, realization phase, and monitoring phase and evaluation. In implementing character of education, SMP Negeri 1 Sukoharjo experiencing several obstacles such as the large number of students making it difficult to supervise the students. The next of obstacles is schools have difficulty in supervising students when they are outside the school environment where there is a wide range of student character effects. Students may be influenced by less educational matters or behaviors that may lead to a lack of successful character education programs that have been implemented by the school.
