Abstract

The purpose of this study to analyze the types of errors and causes of errors by students with the cognitive style of Field Independent (FI) and Field Dependent (FD) in solving the story’s question of Two Variable Linear Equation System (SPLDV) based on Newman's Error Analysis (NEA) in class VIII. Newman's Error Analysis consists of five stages: reading, comprehension, process skill, and encoding. The subjects of this study four students, there are A, B, C, and D taken from class VIII SMP N 1 Gatak Sukoharjo. Data collection techniques and instruments in this study are tests, interviews, and documentation. The validity of the data using triangulation method, while data analysis techniques using reduction, data presentation, and verification. The results of this study is student’s error by field independent are subjected A and B in stage (1) process skill, and (2) encoding. While the student's mistake type field dependent are subject C and D that is at stage (1) comprehension, (2) transformation, (3) process skill and (4) encoding. The mistake’s student FI is less than the mistake’s student by FD.
