Abstract

Abstract School-aged children who are hospitalized will be feel sad, fearful and guilty, face something that has never before experienced, insecurity and comfort, feelings of loss experienced and something that feels painful. Child's anxiety during a hospitalization can be reduced by giving atraumatic care by therapeutic playing. Playing is not only needed by healthy children, sick children also need it. This study aims to determine the effect of "felt puppets" therapy on the level of inpatient anxiety in school-aged children in RSUD Surakarta. This research is a quantitative research with pre experiment design with type "one group pre post test design". The population of the study were patients aged 7-12 years old who were treated in Anggrek Room of RSUD Surakarta in the last three months in April, May, and June 2017 as many as 101 children. The sample of 26 school age children were determined used purposive sampling technique. The data collection used questionnaires which then analyzed used paired sample t-test analysis. The result of paired sample test t-test anxiety of tcount was 11,337 (pv = 0,000), then the test decision H0 rejected so there is the influence of felt-puppets play therapy on the anxiety level of school-age children. Feelings puppets play has a significant effect on decreasing anxiety of school-aged children who experience anxiety during hospitalization. School-aged children who experience anxiety during hospitalization are recommended given felt puppets play therapy Keywords: play therapy, felt puppets, anxiety, school-age children
