Abstract
Background: Dysmenorrhea or menstrual pain is a pain that is felt during menstruation. That pain is cramps in the lower abdomen, lower back, even up to the thigh. Menstrual pain occurs due to lack of oxygen around the uterine muscles that have vasoconstriction. Intensity of menstrual pain will increase in women who rarely exercise. Regular exercise can improve physical fitness, help maintain the menstrual cycle, and reduce menstrual pain. Purpose : To know whether there is a correlation between physical fitness with the intensity of menstrual pain in the students of Physiotherapy University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta. Method : The type of this research is observational research using cross-sectional approach. The research population is taken from the students of Physiotherapy S1 class 2014-2015 as many as 207 peoples. The sample was chosen by purposive sampling technique of 63 peoples based on the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria. Data analysis using Chi-Square. Result : From the results of the study, none of the respondents have a best physical fitness (BS). While respondents who have a good physical fitness (B) only as many as 6 peoples (9.53%), 18 peoples (28.57%) have a moderate physical fitness (S). Respondents with less physical fitness (K) is the highest number as many as 32 peoples (50.79%), and 7 peoples (11.11%) have a less physical fitness (KS). Respondents with lower physical fitness tend to have higher intensity of menstrual pain. Conclusion : There is a correlation between physical fitness with the intensity of menstrual pain in the students of Physiotherapy University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta (p = 0.001)
