Abstract

Congestive heart failure is a condition in which the heart's organs are unable to pump blood throughout the body adequately. This condition can lead to shortness of breath, cough and fatigue easily, resulting in activity intolerance that impact on quality of life. Family support is needed to help patients achieve better conditions. Objective to determine the relationship of family support to the quality of life of patients with congestive heart failure in heart polyclinic RSUD Sukoharjo District.Analytical quantitative design with cross sectional approach was used in this study. The number of research sample is 67 respondents taken by accidental sampling. The statistical test was performed with chi-square. The results showed a relationship between family support and quality of life of patients with congestive heart failure and p-value = 0.000. Provision of health education during hospital visits, the formation of post-rehospitalization peer groups and motivational impetus provided by medical personnel to families will encourage families to be actively involved in caring for patients while at home, exchanging information and sharing experiences experienced by other sufferers can help the patient in maintaining the condition optimally.
