Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze and describe the types of students 'difficulties in solving the problem story system of linear equations two variables as well as Analyze and describe the factors causing students' difficulties in solving the form of the story of the system of two linear equations. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative. Data collection techniques used include documentation techniques and interview techniques. In this research the technique used to test the validity of data is triangulation of source and triangulation method. This research uses interactive data analysis method, ie data reduction, data presentation or verification, conclusion. The results showed that the difficulties experienced by students in solving the story problem of two linear equation system: (1) difficulty in understanding the symbols, among others, the difficulty of changing the story into symbols, and not understanding the symbols that have been exalted; (2) process difficulties, among others, do not yet know how the correct steps and procedures, the difficulty of interpreting the solution, and not yet finished in working on the problem; (3) the difficulty of calculation, among others, weak in calculating large numbers, and difficulty in the concept of calculation. Factors that cause difficulties experienced by students include the lack of understanding of students in the system of two linear equations material, mistaken in interpreting symbols, lack of mastery of mathematics language, wrong in the concept of calculation, weak in operating numbers and less thorough.
