Abstract
This research was conducted with the aim of describing the students learning difficulties and knowing the factors causing students to have difficulty in solving circumference and area of a circle. This type of research is descriptive skin. The subjects of this this study were 26 from grade VIII A in SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta. Data collection techniques in this study using test methods, interviews, and documentations. Data validity is done by triangulation method, by comparing test result data with interview. Data analysis technique is done by three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and data verification and conclusion. The analytical framework was developed based on the three categories of difficulty. Which is difficulty of reading and language, difficulty of understanding the concept, and difficulty of calculation. In general, this difficulty caused by the student can not understanding the problem well, the student can not understand the concept of circumference and area circle well, and the student make a mistake when calculating the answer. Along with the low level of understanding and creativity the students in identifying real problems into the mathematical model.
