Abstract
Abstract College students who have sleep duration that is too short or too long have risk to have a worse mental health. Unhealthy lifestyle like consuming cigarettes make it worse. The objective of this study to know the difference between sleep quality and mental health in smokers and not smokers college students in Surakarta Muhammadiyah University. The hypothesis of this study there is a difference of sleep quality and mental health between smokers and not smokers. Population in this study were all male college students of Surakarta Muhammadiyah University. Subject in this study is 100 male college students of Surakarta Muhammaiyah University were selected using incidental sampling. Research method that were used in this study is quantitative research method that using Mental Health Scale and PSQI (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index) as a measuring instrument. Analysis techniques were used in this research is Independent Sample T-Test. Results from this study is there is no significant difference from sleep quality and mental health between male college students smokers and not smokers. This results were from data analysis that showing p value (Sig. (2-tailed)) in mental health with significance of 0, 492 (p>0. 05) and p value (Sig. (2-tailed)) in sleep quality with significance 0,090 (p>0. 05). So hypothesis is not accepted because there is no significant difference on the Mental Health Scale and PSQI (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index) between male college student that smoking and not smoking.
