Abstract

The research is aimed to know the quest for life meaning in Gerard Way’s song lyrics on The Black Parade album. While, the specific aim of this research is describing quest for life meaning based on Existentialist analysis. In achieving the objectives of the research, the writer uses Existentialism Approach based on Bigelow’s principles which consist of six principles: existence before essence, reason is impotent to deal with the depth of human life, alienation or estrangement, “fear and trembling“ anxiety, the encounter with nothingness and freedom. The main object of this research is Girard Way’s song lyrics on The Black Parade album. The data are taken from Girard Way’s song lyrics on The Black Parade album, and the other articles which are related with it. After analyzing the data, the writer describes the result of the research in which Gerard Way explains that life is more meaningful if he uses it with unlimited creativity, there is also called freedom. Freedom here means the freedom of existence, like fall in love, get married, school, etc. The album, explains about a man who was sick and the death is close to him. In hospital, he just a patient who thinks the death as the goal of his life that makes him do nothing. He images what he wants in screen of memory. From this screen he gets all the memory when he was child. Then from this, he knows that life has colorful meaning.
