Abstract

This research aims to observe the teaching learning of English at the second year of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Muhammadiyah Gonilan Kartasura. Specifically, it is to describe the procedure of teaching learning process and the problems faced by the teacher in teaching learning process of English to the second year students of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Muhammadiyah Gonilan Kartasura. In this research the data are derived from event, informant, and document. There are three techniques in collecting the data, namely: observation, interview and documentation. The researcher uses the descriptive qualitative in analyzing the data. Based on the data analysis, the objective of the teaching English is to motivate the students in accepting the English as the first foreign language. The type and procedure of teaching and learning process emphasize vocabulary. The roles of the teacher are as motivator, counselor, communicator, and facilitator. The roles of the students are as subject and an object of learning. The type of materials is topic-based. It is not arranged based on the language skill but on the theme and sub-theme. The teacher uses two books as the material source: the textbooks used in the classroom entitled “Active English 2” A Fun and Easy English and Al-Karim. There are four problems faced by the teacher in teaching learning process. First, the teacher has taught about how to write and pronounce the words repeatedly but when the students do the test, sometimes they still make mistake in writing them. Second, sometimes the students answer the questions in Arabic language. Third, the teacher reexplains the materials to the students in order to make them understand. The last is when doing the exercise the teacher should explain again before because the students still make noise and do not pay attention.
