Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim of describing the student's Metacognition in solving the problem of the use of the Pythagorean theorem in terms of mathematical ability high, medium, and low. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive. Research conducted on grade VIII B Junior High School Muhammadiyah Surakarta 6 odd semester academic year 2016/2017 by taking 3 students as research subjects categorized high, medium, and low. Data collection techniques interviews, tests, observations, and documentation. The validity of the data using the method of triangulation. Data analysis techniques use reduction of the data, the presentation of data, and conclusions/verification. The results of this research show that (1) metacognition ability of students who have high math is good for the first or second question of fulfilling all aspects, both aspects of prediction, planning aspects, aspects of monitoring, as well as aspects of the evaluation; (2) metacognition ability of students who have medium math were to the first question only aspects of prediction and planning aspects that can be fulfilled, as for the second question of Metacognition students who fulfilled the prediction aspect only; and (3) metacognition ability of students who have low math for the first question only predictions fulfilled, as for the second question of the Metacognition of the students could not be fulfilled in all aspects.
