Abstract

This research is aimed at describing the students’ tag question mastery and the most difficult items of tag question mastered by the students. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The writer collects the data by conducting a test. The subject of the data is 46 students who joined the test. The test consists of fifty items; 20 completions, and 30 multiple choices. Based on the result of the data analysis that has been done, the writer knows that the students can correctly answer the test 60,87% from the total correct answer, there is a student (2,17%) in good category, 27 students (58,70%) in fair category, 4 students (8,70%) in poor category, and 14 students (30,43%) in very poor category. It is known that the students’ tag question mastery belongs to the fair category. It means that the students’ tag question mastery of the third year of SMP N 1 Gubug Purwodadi is fair (60,87%). The students have difficulties in learning the tag question. There are confused in using past tense with to be “was”, the words “hardly”, present tense, using “there”, and the subject “everyone, anyone, someone”.
