Abstract

The research aims at describing the teaching English to the accommodation hotel students at SMK Kasatrian Solo in Sukoharjo, and describing the needs of hotel accommodation students toward the ESP program. The writer uses descriptive qualitative method. The methods of collecting data are observation, interview, and document analysis. The research data were taken on 12th January until 18th January 2009. By using those methods, the writer analyzes the data. The results of this research show that: (a) the goals of teaching English in SMK Kasatrian Solo in Sukoharjo are to enable the students in understanding English as a means of communication and to enable the students in understanding using English in spoken form, (b) method of teaching English applied by the teacher is Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), (c) the teacher does not only use textbook as the material but also use a worksheet to make the students understand the materials more, (d) In conducting the teaching-learning process in English study, the teacher uses seven steps, namely opening the class, explanation, consultation, practice, presentation, evaluation, and closing the class. (e) Based on the target needs, the learners’ needs of the students are learning to master four language skills; English is needed to find a job, and the implementation of English curriculum is not difficult to the students, (f) Based on the learning needs, the facilities from school are complete.
