Abstract

This research is aimed to know whether or not teaching listening using picture can improve students’ listening skill at elementary school of SD N 1 GENTAN Bulu Sukoharjo. Teaching listening using picture is used to improve students’ motivation and their achievement in learning English. In achieving the objectives of this research, the writer used Classroom Action Research procedure that involve four steps, namely planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. There are three cycles in this research in which cycle 1 and 2 are conducted in two meetings,but in cycle 3 consist o f one meeting. The writer takes the fifth year that consists of fifth –ten students as the subject of this research. The methods of collecting data in this researh are observation, documentation, and interview. After analyzing the data, the writer describes the result of the research. The mean score of pre-test is 65 and the mean score in post-test is 86. The result of pre-test and post-test it indicates that the students’ listening skill is improved. The students also have a positive response. They are not bored and more easily learn listening. The students become active in the classroom during the lesson. They are also motivated to study. The result of the mean scores before and after the treatment indicates that the students can improve their listening skill.
