Abstract
This research aims at describing three things, namely the implementation of teaching reading using anecdote texts, the student's ability in reading and the problem faced by the teacher in teaching reading using anecdote texts. In achieving the objectives of the research, the writer uses Classroom Action Research procedure which involves four steps, namely planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. The research is held in MAN Karanggede Boyolali. The writer takes the second grade that consists of thirty five students as the subject of the study. There are two cycles in this research in which the first cycle is conducted four meetings and the second cycle is conducted three meetings. Each cycle used pre-test and post-test. The results of pre-test and post-test were used to know the score of the reading skill. In the first cycle the mean score of pre-test is 58.57, the mean of score post-test 1 is 72.28, and in the second cycle 2 the mean score post-test 2 is 80.57. It means that the students have a significant improvement in reading ability. The students score was getting better in each cycle. It indicated that the teaching learning process was successful. There are some problems faced by the teacher in the process of teaching reading by using anecdote text that are the student's lack of English vocabulary and the students’ motivation in learning English mainly in reading decreases. The problems solving to overcome the problems above are the teacher makes the students accustomed to consult their dictionaries, chooses the material that is related to the student's interest, and gives the key vocabulary then drill those vocabularies.
