Abstract
This research aims at describing the method of teaching writing and problems faced by the students at SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Gemolong. It is conducted to know the method of teaching writing, and the problem faced by the students at SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Gemolong. The objectives of the study are describing the method used by the teacher in writing in SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Gemolong and to describing the problems faced by the students. The method in collecting the data of this research from observation, interview and questionnaire. The study shows that (1) The method applied by the teacher is Grammar Translation Method. The teacher teaches deductively, the teacher gets more active in teaching English. (2) The students have several problems in learning writing, namely; the use of grammar, they lack of vocabulary, how to combine the words to become sentences and difficult in looking for the idea.
