Abstract

This research aims at describing the process of English teaching-learning process, the problems faced by the teacher and the students and the roles of the teacher, students and the material in 2007/2008 academic year. The research was done on 23 November 2007 until 16 February 2008. This research paper is a descriptive quantitative study in which the data are interview script and lesson plan. The writer gets the data from events, informant, and document. The techniques of collecting data are the observation and interview of the process of English teaching-learning process, the problem faced by the teacher and the students and the role of the teacher, students and the material used in teaching the class. The result of the research shows that the teaching-learning process at this school there are three steps, open the lesson and presentation, explanation and isolation, and the last practice. The teacher has several problems in teaching- learning process, namely the students make noise in the class, and the students are uncooperative, so it makes the activities in the class become crowded. The problem faced by the students is in their vocabulary and grammar, it is still limited so it not easy for them to learn English. The roles of the teacher in teaching-learning activities are as a creator of friendly classroom atmosphere, a guide and facilitator, a jury and leader, and partner of study. Meanwhile, the roles of the students are as player and the partner of the study. And, the role of the material is regarded as servant of the language teaching process.
