Abstract

This research aims at finding out the implementation of Contextual Teaching and Learning in teaching writing and to know the procedure of teaching writing and also to discover the problem faced by teacher in teaching writing.The writer takes the English teacher and students of the first year as the subject of the study. This research is a qualitative descriptive research. The writer collects the data by observing English class, documenting and interviewing with the English teacher. From the research finding, data analysis and discussion, the writer draws some conclusions. The result of the analysis shows that (1) the objective of Contextual Teaching and Learning in Teaching Writing is to introduce English as the first foreign language to be learned and to make the students active in the language class both oral and written forms, (2) The roles of teacher as facilitator, transferor, controller, manager, assessor. The roles of students as doer or developer knowledge, (3) the instructional material should be appropriate to the syllabus, (4) the techniques implemented used by the teacher are appropriate with four steps (BKOF, MOT, JC, IC) using principles of CTL, (5) the learning assessment conducted are assignment, daily test, and final test, (6) the problem faced by the teacher are classroom management, limited time, different capability of students, unstable motivation of the students.
