Abstract
The research is aim to find the configuration of discourse of song lyrics and to identify the purpose of the composer in Shades of Purple album by M2M. To achieve these objectives, the researcher determines the configurations of Discourse Analysis towards song lyrics based on seven criteria for textuality, and then applies the speech act theory, especially illocutionary meaning to justify the composer's intention. The researcher is conducts descriptive qualitative method as the type of research within this research paper. In collecting the data, he using observation method, while the technique of collecting data is listen to the songs and recording data in the form of orthography. The recorded data in the form of orthography are the primary data, while the secondary data are text of songs in Shades of Purple album by M2M. This method is proposes to observe the discourse element within M2M song lyrics. In analyzing the data, the researcher used seven criteria for textuality in found the elements of discourse in song lyrics, and speech act theory especially illocutionary meaning in found the composer's intention. Based on the result of analysis, the researcher is concludes that in creating song lyrics, there are configurations of discourse of song lyrics in Shades of Purple album by M2M. They are configures from the elements: cohesion, coherence, acceptability, intentionality, informativeness, situationality, and intertextuality. Besides that, the researcher also founds out whether in song lyrics, there are composer's intention that given to the audiences. Basically, the composer intention in giving acknowledgment to the audiences about love and it's scope, whether about love, sadness, broken heart, dream, friendship, etc.
