Abstract

Entrepreneurial participation in Indonesia remains relatively limited, with entrepreneurs comprising only 3.47% of the total population. Despite a growing interest in entrepreneurship among university students, the unemployment rate among graduates continues to be substantial. This study aims to examine the influence of entrepreneur passion, creativity, and family background on students’ entrepreneur intention, with self-efficacy positioned as a mediating variable. A quantitative approach was employed using purposive sampling to select 200 undergraduate students from three universities in Surakarta who had completed coursework in entrepreneurship. Data were collected through a structured, closed-ended questionnaire and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings indicate that entrepreneur passion, creativity, and family background have a significant and positive effect on entrepreneur intention. Furthermore, self-efficacy functions as a significant mediator in the relationships between these three antecedent variables and entrepreneur intention. These results underscore the importance of both psychological and contextual factors in shaping students’ entrepreneur aspirations. Accordingly, experience-based entrepreneurship education and family support systems should be strengthened to foster a generation of self-reliant and competitive young entrepreneurs.
