Abstract
Casting is a process in which solid metal is melted in a furnace until the metal becomes liquid. Then poured into the mold and allowed to freeze. The research method used is investment casting with the addition of silicon (Si) 0%, 5%, and 10% of 400 grams of Aluminum. Investment casting is generally used to make intricately shaped components that require tighter accuracy, thinner walls, and better surface finish, copper alloyed aluminum has advantages due to its high mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. This process is carried out using wax coated with ceramics slurry, then leaving a cavity for casting metal. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of variations in the addition of the element silicon (Si) on shrinkage, density, chemical composition, microstructure, and hardness. Chemical composition testing uses a spectrometer test tool with ASTM E415 testing standards, metallographic testing is carried out to determine the microstructure of the product and hardness testing using Micro Vickers tools with ISO 6507 standards, ASTM E384. The chemical composition test results show a silicon content of 0.735%, 2.690%, and 5.170%. The test results show that the higher the percentage of silicon present in the material causes the hardness and density to increase with hardness values of 73.1 VHN, 79.4 VHN, and 84.4 VHN.
