Abstract

The formation of individuals who are moral and able to behave in a polite manner is one of the functions of national education. In achieving this function, it requires the presence of parents in the educational process as well as individual self-control. The purpose of this study is to examine whether there is a relationship between parental involvement and self-control on students' polite behavior. This study uses quantitative methods with data collection techniques using Likert scales with parental involvement scales, self-control scales and courtesy behavior scales. The sample in this study amounted to 100 students obtained using cluster random sampling technique. Data analysis in this study was multiple linear regression analysis. The results of this study indicate that there is a relationship between parental involvement and self-control on students' courtesy behavior (p = 0.000 <0.05). There is a significant positive relationship of parental involvement on courtesy behavior (p = 0.010 < 0.05). There is a significant positive relationship between self-control and courtesy behavior (p = 0.000 <0.05). The effective contribution or contribution of the two independent variables to polite behavior in this study was 66.3% with details of 8.3% parental involvement variables and 58% self-control variables, while 33.7% was influenced by other factors.
