Abstract
This study discusses the moral values in the novel The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling and its relevance to literature learning in high schools using the sociology of literature approach. The objectives of this study are (1) to describe the structure of the novel The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling. (2) to describe the moral values contained in the novel The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling. (3) to present the relevance of the results of the study of moral values in the novel The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling as literature teaching materials in high schools. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative, the strategy used is embedded research and case study. The data from this study are words, phrases, sentences, and discourses that contain moral values contained in the novel The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling. Data Sources from this study The Jungle Book Novel by Rudyard Kipling. Data Collection Techniques using Literature Study Techniques. Data Validation Techniques using Triangulation Theory using the perspective of more than one problem that examines moral values in the novel The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling. Data Analysis Technique using dialectical method. The results of this study indicate (1) The structure of the novel consists of theme, story facts (plot, characterization, setting). (2) The moral aspect of the novel The Jungle Book by Rudyard 2 Kipling contains moral values of human relationships with oneself, moral values of humans with other humans, moral values of human relationships with the universe, and moral values of human relationships with God. (3) The Jungle Book novel can be made relevant to literature learning in high school by linking Basic Competence 3.7 class XI and considered as Teaching Material Criteria according to aspects of language, psychology, cultural background.
