Abstract

Art is very closely related to the city of Solo. However, due to the lack of exhibition space and limited art galleries, the people of Solo are less appreciative of art. As an information center, libraries can collaborate with art galleries which also play a role in exchanging information, and can attract public interest in two directions. The design of the Solo Artem Gallery and Library has the main aim and objective of increasing art appreciation as well as people's interest in reading. Apart from that, art galleries can be a place for work for beginner/pioneer to senior artists as well as visual communication between artists and the public. Meanwhile, the library is also a place for pupils and students to study, do assignments, a source of knowledge, etc. In preparing the KPA, the method used is a descriptive method which begins with observation and comparative studies. Galleries and libraries have the same atmosphere needed, namely calm, comfort and simplicity. The concept of collaboration between Zen philosophy and Brutalism architecture in its application to the design of the Solo Artem Gallery and Library is a form of effort to create a conceptual balance between the two with the aim of creating a comfortable, calm and simple atmosphere with a strong and plain impression. From the design results, it is hoped that the Artem Solo Gallery and Library building will use a Zen Brutalism approach to increase art appreciation and interest in reading among the public.
