Abstract

New students are those who are in the early stages of adult development or reaching personal maturity. Starting with the living and study environment, the first thing new students will encounter is a new social environment. New students often experience adjustments. Personal adjustment can affect physical conditions, personality, learning processes, environment, culture and religion, for, self-determination, and family support. The aim of this research is to examine the relationship between family support and self-determination in the adjustment of new students. The population of this study were new students at Muhammadiyah University, Surakarta. The sampling technique used was accidental random sampling, with a total sample of 178 new students from the Faculty of Psychology. The data collection method uses a scale of self-determination, family support, and self-adjustment. The data analysis method used is multiple regression. The results of the major hypothesis are acceptable; it is proven that there is a relationship between family support and self-determination and adjustment. With, the minor hypothesis value of Sig. < 0.05, it can be concluded that there is an influence of family support and self-determination on self-adjustment, where the significant value of family support and self-determination is both 0.000 because the value is < 0.05.
