Abstract
This research aims to describe the role of schools and find out the obstacles and alternative solutions implemented by schools in strengthening the environmentally caring character of students at Adi Sumarmo Colomadu Vocational School, Karanganyar Regency. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The subjects of this research were the teachers and principal of SMK Adi Sumarmo Colomadu. Data collection techniques in this research used interview, observation and documentation methods. Data validity uses two types of triangulation, namely techniques and data sources. Data analysis was carried out by applying an interactive model. Indicators of the value of caring for the environment used in this research are: 1) getting used to maintaining environmental cleanliness and preserving the school environment, 2) providing rubbish dumps and hand washing facilities, 3) providing bathrooms and clean water, 4) building waste water drainage channels with good, 5) handling waste resulting from practices. The results of the research show that the role played by the school can develop environmentally caring character in Adi Sumarmo Colomadu Vocational School students through the habit of maintaining the school environment in accordance with environmentally caring character. The obstacles encountered by schools in strengthening the environmentally caring character of Adi Sumarmo Colomadu Vocational School students are that there are still students who violate the rules that have been made and there are also students who are lazy in protecting the environment. An alternative solution implemented by the school to overcome obstacles to developing environmentally caring character among Adi Sumarmo Colomadu Vocational School students is by holding rotating cleanliness competitions which are held every semester to raise students' enthusiasm for maintaining a clean environment. Based on this conclusion, it gives rise to implications that if schools want students to have a high sense of environmental care, this can be done through developing environmentally caring character.
