Abstract

In recent years, environmental issues have been growing. One of them is global warming. This issue has received great attention from around the world. This issue is of great concern to the entire world community. There are many impacts of global warming, one of which occurs in Pekalongan City. The northern part of Pekalongan City, namely North Pekalongan Sub-district, is a coastal area right next to the North Coast of the Java Sea that is vulnerable to the phenomenon of tidal flooding. Vulnerability is the state of the community unable to overcome the threat of disaster. The causes of tidal floods are also due to rising sea levels, land subsidence, and climate change. The occurrence of tidal floods is very detrimental to the community and damages existing infrastructure and facilities. Therefore, disaster mitigation efforts are needed to reduce disaster risk. The research objectives are to map the distribution of social vulnerability of tidal floods in North Pekalongan Sub-district. Analyze the direction of tidal flood disaster mitigation needed in North Pekalongan Sub-district. The method used was stratified random sampling and field survey. There are five parameters of social vulnerability, namely population density, sex ratio, poverty ratio, disabled population ratio, and age group ratio. The results show that social vulnerability in North Pekalongan Sub-district is categorized as high. Areas with high social vulnerability are spread across 7 urban villages in North Pekalongan Sub-district. Structural mitigation needs to be carried out for all areas in North Pekalongan Sub-district, namely building and maintaining shelters & evacuation sites, improving drainage systems. As for nonstructural mitigation in North Pekalongan Sub-district, the community should conduct disaster monitoring, increase vigilance, enable the community to actively participate in disaster preparedness committees, implement the climate village program, and form a special team that handles evacuation for vulnerable groups.
