Abstract
An excellent competitive strategy is undoubtedly needed to produce a favorable situation for the company. Companies commonly use 5 things to compete commonly known as porter's five forces. Porter's five forces model is a business analysis technique for monitoring competition between similar industries. The scope of the five forces of competition includes the threat of new entrants, bargaining power of suppliers, bargaining power of buyers, threat of substance products, and competition in the industry. This study aims to describe the application of porter's five forces analysis for competitive strategy and identify the inhibiting factors of the application of the competitive strategy of Galaxy Supermarket in Semarang Regency. This research applies the descriptive qualitative method by utilizing interview, documentation, and observation techniques, and then the data is verified by triangulation of sources and methods. The results showed that the threat of substitute products and the bargaining power of buyers were considered high. This can be used to implement further strategies in order to compete in similar businesses.
