Abstract
The former Kadipolo Hospital is the third-largest hospital in Surakarta City, established since 1915 and owned by Keraton, over time, the operation of hospital has experienced a decline, necessitating a change in ownership and function, rendering it non-functional by 1998. The building has since been as a Heritage Building based on SK. Walikota Surakarta Nomor:646/1-R/1/2013. However, following its classification as a Heritage Building, the structure has become neglected and abandoned. Departing from this issue, an idea emerged to develop the former Kadipolo Hospital building to ensure that its status as a Cultural Heritage Building doesn’t go to waste. In development, adaptive reuse will serve as the foundation for physical restoration of the historic building, which is no longer contextual to present needs. Thus, new functional are necessary to assist the surrounding community, in form of a creative hub. The design of a creative hub in the heart of Surakarta City aims to transform the image of the former Kadipolo Hospital building into a positive one, providing a platform for the community to enhance their quality of life, particularly in terms of the economy, especially through the creative economy. The design of creative hub in the heart of Surakarta City, utilizing the abandoned historical building, is expected to have both social and economic impacts on the community.
