Abstract

Parenting behavior is a pattern of behavior applied to a child that is relatively consistent over time. This behavior pattern can be felt by children from negative or positive sessions. Independence is a person's attitude that is acquired cumulatively during development, where a person will continue to learn to be independent in dealing with various situations and problems in the environment, so that a person will ultimately be able to think and act independently. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between parenting styles of working parents and the independence of pre-school aged children at Pertiwi Kindergarten in Toyogo Ssambungmacan. This type of research is quantitative with a cross sectional research design. The sample in this study was taken using total population sampling and as respondents were 83 parents who had children attending TK Pertiwi Toyogo Sambungmacan. From univariate data, it was obtained that 65.1% of parents applied authoritarian parenting and 50.6% of children were independent. The results of the Spearman Rho test calculations obtained a sig value of 0.000 < 0.05, so there is a relationship between parenting patterns and the independence of pre-school aged children. Suggestions for future researchers are to recognize other factors that appear and can influence children's independence.
