Abstract
Street vendors are defined as small businesses with low income and limited capital. Street vendors use urban infrastructure, social spaces, public spaces, land as well as government or private buildings where they are not established. The existence of street vendors in urban areas is not a group of people who cannot enter the urban economic sector. The means of selling are in the form of kiosks, tents or places where goods are offered to buyers transversely. The purpose of this study is to examine the socio-economic impacts experienced by entrepreneurs to explore the survival strategies of street vendors. This study used qualitative research methods. The technique used in this study was stratified quota sampling which was carried out by taking quota samples from each street vendor. The population of this study were street vendors with a total of 76 respondents who were divided into three main categories, namely food, drinks and accessories. Based on the research results obtained, street vendors have characteristics that are dominated by men who are on average 31-40 years old, including productive working age. The Covid-19 pandemic created obstacles for street vendors. The obstacles faced by street vendors during the Covid-19 pandemic were mostly the impact of Covid-19, namely reduced consumer purchasing power due to social restrictions imposed by government policies, rising prices of raw materials for businesses which caused problems, difficulties in distribution and production by producers during the pandemic which caused an increase in raw material prices. Commodity complexity is the third obstacle for street vendors, because their distribution system is complex due to limited social interaction. The Covid-19 pandemic also had an economic impact, namely a decrease in income. Government policies force street vendors to use survival strategies to ensure their business continuity. The marketing strategy carried out by street vendors uses social media and increases the price of goods. The strategy of reducing opening hours was also used by street vendors to reduce losses due to weak consumer purchasing power.
