Abstract
This research belongs to descriptive qualitative research in the Hadiths on Fasting as the data and focuses in the directive utterances. The research aims to classify directive utterances types and to describes the intension refers to the theories of speech act, speech context and implicature. The data of this research is taken from the English version of hadiths on fasting compilation written in Bulughul Maram and it is analyzed using qualitative approach which produces the descriptive or written report. The documentation technique is used to collect the data. Whereas, the technique which is used to analyzed the data is content analysis. The data is analyzed using speech act theory of Levinson, Searle, Kreidler and Yule to examine the types of directives, while the intension contained is examined using speech context and implicature theory by Hymes, Grice and Levinson. The five types of directives found in the data both of direct and indirect ways as follows; prohibiting, commanding, requesting, suggestion and ordering. While three kinds of implicature is found as the intension contained namely; conversational implicature, particularized conversational implicature and generalized conversational implicature. From these results, it can be concluded that the hadith especially on fasting which is contained the rules of fasting in the Islamic Religion contained the kinds of implicature and can be analyzed under linguistics study.
