Abstract

21st century skills need to be integrated into the implementation of learning in educational units from an early age. However, some schools have not implemented it optimally due to various constraints experienced by each educational unit. The purpose of this study was to describe the implementation of learning to integrate 21st century skills as school readiness in realizing the Independent Curriculum in elementary schools. The method developed in this study is descriptive-qualitative with a case study design. The research location is at Paulan Public Elementary School which is located in Colomadu District. Data collection techniques were carried out by in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The collected data were analyzed non-statistically by means of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions were drawn. The results of the research show that: 1) learning integrates 21st century skills as school readiness to realize independent learning in the implementation of learning, namely with the role of the school principal as a leader responsible for formulating vision and mission, increasing teacher professionalism, and implementing an independent curriculum implemented in stages; 2) the role of the teacher in learning to integrate 21st century skills at the lesson planning stage by compiling learning tools that integrate 21st century skills, then at the learning implementation stage by organizing learning integrating 4C skills, and evaluating according to the tools prepared; 3) the obstacles experienced are in the form of external and internal factors, the external factors are developments in science and technology and global competition, while the internal factors are the teachers themselves, and to overcome these obstacles the principal and teachers try to optimize various school assets and motivate all teachers to optimize their competence in presenting learning concepts that are more creative, innovative, and fun.
